Merced Library’s Local Author Fair: Joshua Valentine

“Drag Queen Superstar Author” To Make Appearance At Merced Library’s Local Author Fair

(Merced, CA; Oct 14, 2023)

The Merced County Library and the Center for the Humanities at UC Merced recently announced they will be hosting a Local Author Fair on Oct. 28, 2023 at Merced Library (2100 O Street, Merced, California.)

Joshua Valentine, the Merced based author of RUNAWAY HUMANITY, a recently released sci-fi novel that asks readers to “Imagine a world where humanity has migrated to Mars to escape a dying Earth, only to discover signs of life on the supposedly lifeless planet,” will be available for fans and media to meet at the event.

Valentine will be featured in an upcoming issue of Authority magazine’s in their “5 Things You Need To Be A Successful Writer Or Author” Series, and is hard at work at a highly anticipated second novel. SOMEBODY’S DILEMMA – A SCIENCE FICTION NOVEL, (described as “abstract, psychedelic,” is slated for publication in November, 2024.

Fans and socials followers will make a beeline for Joshua Valentine’s table, but if media or new readers want to find Valentine, they need only look for the most fabulous author in the space. In addition to being a serious author, he’s also a celebrated drag queen – though with the author, like his writing itself – it’s wise to expect the unexpected!

“I don’t actually perform in drag, rather I appear at author events and vendor fairs dressed in drag. As an author I am unconventional in the sense that I am image driven like a pop star, but as a drag queen I’m unconventional in that I don’t perform like one. I like to consider myself a loud author but a quiet drag queen,” Valentine says with a smile.

Prestigious Kirkus Reviews said : “This novel’s narrative tone is dead serious rather than campy, even during climactic moments of prose delirium. Still, there are elevated emotions in this work, which features bondage, sexual assault, murder conspiracies, and other horrific acts committed by disgusting men (human and nonhuman) against women and against the Earth; there’s even a rather cryptic reference to Donald Trump and his Mar-a-Lago resort. The story features a hyper-acceleration of climate-change anxiety, even in an age of numerous “cli-fi” works; also, untypically for SF, the story focuses on older characters, which is an intriguing commentary on the genre in itself. An often-gruesome speculative yarn in which male malevolence predominates.” Buy it at :
